About this campground
The lateral blast during the 1980 eruption thundered across the landscape as far as 17 miles from the volcano, blasting away, flattening or leaving standing dead trees. Stop and marvel at the still-standing dead trees killed by the heat during the eruption at the outer edge of the blast zone. The site marks the eastern entrance to the Mount St. Helens National Volcanic Monument. Getting there
From Cougar WA take Lewis River Road east for 2.8 miles. The road then changes to Forest Road 90. Continue on FR 90 for 16 miles and stay to the left on Forest Road 25, pass the Pine Creek Information Center. Drive Forest Road 25 for 25 miles and turn left at the junction of FR 25 and FR 99. The Blast EdgeViewpoint will be on your left approximately 3.9 miles up Forest Road 99.
