What is a military campground?

Most U.S. military installations run outdoor-recreation campgrounds through their Morale, Welfare & Recreation (MWR) program — widely known as FamCamps. They range from full-hookup RV parks to lakeside recreation areas, cabins, and cottages, usually at a fraction of commercial rates.

These campgrounds are booked through each service's own MWR systems — not through Recreation.gov — so availability, rates, and rules live on the installation's own pages. This directory gathers them in one place and links each to its official listing.

Not sure if you can stay?

Eligibility reaches well beyond active duty — retirees, Guard/Reserve, DoD civilians (at many sites), and, since 2020, all service-connected disabled veterans, Purple Heart recipients, former POWs, and eligible caregivers. Rules vary by installation.

Many campgrounds welcome all eligible patrons regardless of the operating branch. Always confirm with the installation before you travel.

Camping California state parks too?

When a sold-out California campsite frees up, we'll text, email, or push you the second it opens — so you don't sit refreshing ReserveCalifornia.
