About this campground

The Portland Trail #238 begins at the Amphitheater Campground and ends at an intersection with the Upper Cascade Falls Trail #213. The combination of these two trails will create a short approximately 3.2 mile loop. In approximately 0.2 miles from the parking area, the trail intersects the Upper Cascade Falls Trail #213. Continue to your right on the Portland Trail as it descends across a drainage, which is usually dry, and ascends up the opposite side. A series of gentle switchbacks ascend the basin as it continues toward an overlook which is indicated on a trail sign. It climbs through mixed conifers and scrub oak with great views of Hayden Mountain, raising to 13,139 feet and Potosi Peak, raising to 13,786 feet in the west and southwest. After approximately 2.1 miles, the trail intersects the Portland Mine Trail #238.1A and after approximately 2.5 miles it intersects the Upper Cascade Falls Trail #213 where the trail comes to an end.
