About this campground

The Kimball Creek Trail #532 provides access to the western trailhead of the Battlement Trail #527, the upper access of the Smalley Mt. Trail #531 and the Hawxhurst Trail #530. The Trailhead is in a small open meadow surrounded by oakbrush.  The trail begins as a two track travelling wast-northeast and immediately crosses a narrow, wooden ATV bridge over Kimball Creek. The Kimball Creek Trail is a rough trail because of the steep grade that it travels and also due to several areas where the trail is full of boulders and has significant erosion.  It is passable for ATV travel but should be used with extreme caution. Getting there

LOWER ACCESS: From Collbran, turn left (west) at the intersection with Hwy 330 and Plateau Creek and travel approximately 1/4 mile.  The Kimball Creek Road climbs steeply to the north from the Plateau Creek drainage and continues in a northern direction.  Continue on the Kimball Creek Road, Mesa County Road 58.6, for approximately 5.5 miles.  At 5.5 miles the Kimball Creek Road becomes FSR # 275 and a spur road forks to the northeast off of FSR # 275.  Turn right at this intersection and take FSR #275.1A northeast for approximately 0.4 miles to the Western trailhead of the Kimball Creek Trail.  UPPER ACCESS: The upper Trailhead for the Kimball Creek Trail is located 0.3 miles east of the trailhead for the Battlement Trail #527.  The section of the Battlement Trail open to motorized travel begins on the edge of a spruce/fir stand and an open meadow, adjacent to the Wallace guide and outfitter camp.
