About this campground
Flying W Group Day Use Area is a day use area located next to Riverview Campground in the Gila Box Riparian National Conservation Area. It includes parking, six picnic tables, drinking water, restrooms, a sand volleyball court, horseshoe pits, trash cans, grills, an information kiosk, 30’x 40’ shade ramada, and Cottonwood Trailhead. The day use area may be reserved for exclusive use with a fee, otherwise, users may use the area on a first-come first-serve basis. Cost to reserve the site for exclusive use is: $50.00 for first 50 people $75.00 for 50-75 people $100.00 for 75-100 people To make a reservation for this site, call the Safford Field Office at 928-348-4400. Getting there
From Safford, travel approximately five miles east on U.S. Highway 70 to the town of Solomon and turn left onto Sanchez Road. Travel north for eight miles, crossing the bridge at the Gila River, to a Gila Box RNCA sign. Turn left onto that dirt road. Travel another 3.8 miles and take the right fork in the road. Travel 0.6 mile to another fork and turn right. Follow the signs at the next fork, turning right into the Riverview Campground. The picnic area, with its large W-shaped canopy, is just beyond the campground. Check with the Safford Field Office for up-to-date road conditions.
